Description & Details of Banks Road Vacation Home Rental
Banks Road VHR oceanfront/beachfront house was built in 2004. The house was built with an open, bright, happy concept to accommodate up to six people comfortably.

The living/dining room combo has a 25 foot cathedral style pine tongue and groove ceiling with huge windows looking out onto a beautiful view of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It also has a wonderful wood fireplace.

There are maple hardwood floors throughout the house. The kitchen features butcher block counter tops and a refinished antique farmhouse sink with the Gulf view.

There is a huge deck that has three separate entrances and includes an outdoor shower with hot and cold water.

There is a first floor bedroom with two twin antique wrought iron beds. Next to that bedroom is a full bathroom including shower. The laundry area is located in the hallway adjacent to the bathroom.

The second floor is fabulous! This is an open loft style bedroom with a king size antique wrought iron bed and a futon bunk bed that has a full size bed on the bottom and a twin on top. This is one big loft area and the beds are all in the same room together. Great for adults or kids.

There is a large bathroom with an incredible tiled steam shower. On a rainy day after a hike, run or ride, this steam is wonderful! Great views from the many windows too.

Our house sits 300 feet in from the road on 17 acres. Very private. There is a hiking path (about 15-20 minute walk; 400 meters/1200 feet) to our beautiful beach.

All this just one mile from the town of Inverness which has shopping, restaurants, a public beach with cafe and a new golf course, Cabot Links, that opened in July 2011.

Travel & Leisure Magazine's World's Best Awards, for the fourth time, ranks Cape Breton Island as the #1 island to visit in Continental US & Canada and #3 in the world! National Geographic Traveler calls it one of '50 places of a lifetime', and Conde Nast Traveler says it's the most scenic island in the world.

Celtic Colours International Festival is October 10-18, 2014!!

This is a very special place. It is our dream home. We hope you love it as much as we do!!

Reviews for Banks Road Vacation Home Rental
I really do not know where to start. We live on the mainland of Nova Scotia and drove out of the pouring rain only to have bright wonderful sunshine greet us in Inverness and so it was all week. We were amazed with the beauty of the property when we pulled in the driveway and everything, thereon in was a fantastic experience. The house itself is fully equipped, so other than your personal choice of food, you are set. We were greeted by the caretaker George who was so kind and helpful. The walk to the private beach was a great adventure and it was great to find some old coal seams on the rock face. Just to sit on the deck and watch over the Gulf of St. Lawrence was an experience. I watched a pod of whales for well over an hour. The public beach minutes away was literally deserted in the mornings and absolutely beautiful..Lots of sea glass..Be sure to take a trip around the Cabot Trail. We did it in a day (I am from the Island orignally so we really had no need to stop at the different trails etc.) So many great spots to eat..the new Cabot Links Gold Course itself has 3 spots to eat...Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, various spots in Cheticamp..take in a "dance" in Glencoe or Brookvillage..visit Baddeck for some shopping, Glenora Distillery for a tour or lunch/supper with live entertainment, Cape Breton style. We even had a lovely wood burning fire one evening, just to say we did..it was magical. There is a wonderful antique/art studio in Lake Ainslie as well as the MacDonald farm which is a provincial museum. Staff are wonderful. We will definatley be going back..Thanks Vicki for a wonderful week and opening your spectacular home!!!!!

Autumn at Banks Road Vacation House is a lovely time. With the wood fire place to take the chill off the morning, the huge west facing windows and deck to view the beautiful Gulf of St. Lawrence and the fall foliage, and the privacy of the large property, Banks Road Vacation House has all the ingredients for a great holiday. The House is well situated for day trips around the beautiful Island of Cape Breton as well as for cultural events and salmon fishing. We enjoyed every minute of our vacation and are planning for a return next year.

Wonderful relaxing week in a stunning spot on the ocean. Fantastic, well equipped home, you really just need clothes and some groceries. Sunsets from the deck, whale watching, fine food and music nearby. Great local hospitality in a quiet, peaceful town that has everything you need at hand. Oh, and a private ocean beach!

We stayed at the Banks Road home in early June 2012. We found it extremely comfortable for 2 adults and it would easily have accommodated either another couple or some children. As it was cool most evenings, we really enjoyed the wood fireplace to take the chill out of the air. The back deck is huge , with stunning views of the water, especially at sunset. One of our favorite excursions was a day trip to Louisburg to visit the old fort. We made most of our meals in the fully equipped kitchen. We found this home to be clean, with a simple, modern, eclectic decor - a very soothing and relaxing space. Would go back in a heartbeat!!

Imagine yourself dining comfortably on the huge deck, listening to the soothing sounds of nature (or any music you fancy), breathing fresh, crisp air with your face warmed by the rays of the sun setting into the St Lawrence gulf... you won't miss the TV! There's an abundance of reasons why you would definitely want to stay at Vicki's Banks Road Vacation home: - a spectacular view (westwards thus includes beautiful sunsets) from both, the inside easy chairs or kingsize bed and the splendid deck, - a lovely decorated interior that makes you feel that the owner really cares about the place, - a comfortable and generous set of facilities (kitchen, laundry, bath & shower) that leave nothing to be desired, - location, location, location... the home is fully secluded yet offers a great range of things to do and see within less than one hour's drive (e.g. Mabou or Judique for ceilidhs and concerts, CBH NP for hiking, Glenora distillery for fine dining) and the town of Inverness (for basic needs) is less than five minutes away, making the place a perfect home base for a western Cape Breton vacation, - the beach, deck and lawn (for sun); the fireplace (set ready to be lit), steamshower and spacious house (for rain) as well as the attractions in the vicinity make you completely independent of the weather (our week was split into two almost equal halves of bad and fair weather and we enjoeyed every minute of it), - and last but not least; Vicki and George (nearby-living caretaker) will do everything they can to make your stay as pleasant as possible (that's how it felt to us). Were we not living so far away, we'd certainly be back this fall :-)

Recently my family rented this beautiful house for a week, we travelled from Alberta, New Brunswick, and Halifax to meet in Cape Breton. When we arrived we were excited to see a kitchen that was fully stocked with all the dishes that we would need, pots and pans, coffee maker. The entire house was spotless, and there was a pile of firewood ready for the evening's fire. It was the perfect house for a week long relaxing get-a-way. The location was perfect for us, and what a view!

This is a beautiful house in a stunning location. It has all the mod cons of up-to-code construction with the gracious feel of an older home. The kitchen is well-equipped; the hot water supply and water pressure are fantastic; and the double pane windows, efficient heating, and working fireplace make this a cozy retreat in cooler weather. While we loved leisurely evenings preparing meals at the house and enjoying the spectacular sunsets from the patio, we were also pleasantly surprised that there were some viable options for dining out nearby. We had a wonderful holiday at the Banks Road home and look forward to returning! Thank you Vicki!

This is an incredible house with gorgeous high and wide views out over the ocean. We are a family of four with kids 5 and 7 and we all just loved it. The kids slept on the first floor and parents on second, the kids played in the spacious grass yard and parents watched from the recliners, kids watched a movie while we made dinner, it is just perfectly set up for a family. The house is spacious clean and bright and we enjoyed just relaxing around the house with the children. Leisurely breakfasts, then a walk down through a fragrant pine forest to a private beach. There is a fabulous steam shower for off the master bedroom for those who appreciate these things. I had a great later afternoon steaming, cold showering and then resting while I watched the sun set. Inverness is a pleasant town and the new Cabot Links golf course is expected to be fantastic. We also saw a lot of local music and did a lot of hiking, beach-combing and exploring around the island. Cape Breton is really fantastic and feels quite secluded. Best of all I had no cell phone reception, so I was forced not to check my blackberry and focus on the vacation! Top marks for this vacation house! We've stayed in about four different houses in Nova Scotia on the South Shore over the last seven years and this house in Cape Breton is one off the best.
