Friends Lodge in Yosemite Vacation Rental ID#141745
Our Yosemite home, Friends Lodge, is located in Yosemite in Wawona on a small fork of the river. We have three bedrooms and two full baths, complete kitchen, laundry, living room, hot tub, Wifi, and all the amenities you would expect. The hot tub, which is on the larger deck, is a delight, especially at night, with the tall pine trees reaching upwards almost it appears, to the stars! Because there are no city lights, millions of stars stretch across the sky.Although it is now a Yosemite cabin rental for most of the year, it was originally our only home. This Yosemite lodging was

... our homestead- where we had our children and raised them during their early years. We have a small playground on the property. Now it is a vacation rental and many families enjoy it, including ours! We do have fantasies of returning to live there someday, but our children have become too used to the city and would feel isolated if we lived there again full time. But it will always be our Yosemite cabin- those were wonderful years- and perhaps we will come back to live there when the children have left the nest.
Wawona is an inholding because it contains private property but is entirely surrounded by Yosemite National Park. Wawona is a small town and feels like it- life is slower than in the city and people who live there relate to you personally- not according to your job or theirs. The town is quiet, the scenery is beautiful, and the water is good to drink straight from the tap. Wawona is unique- you will likely want to visit the Pioneer History Center, the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees, and possibly the Golf course and riding stable. Mostly, it is a jumping off point for the 1000+ square miles of Yosemite National Park. Several trails begin in Wawona, and Badger Pass, the downhill ski area, is not far away. Yosemite Valley is about 45 minutes by car on a nice day. Take time just to relax! Please leave us a note in our guest book if you stay in our home!
Our rates are some of the best in this area as our home is actually inside the park! For guests that stay a week in our home, they get the seventh night at no charge. Also, Triple A discounts (8%) are available. In addition, during March, guests staying 3 nights will only be charged for two. We have four rate categories throughout the year- Value, Mid, Peak, and Holiday. Check our prices in the table and all the possible discounts available below!

Relax in our new four person hot tub on the larger deck. This is a truly delightful experience, especially at night, under the stars, with the river in the backyard. Cook on the gas grill.
The large living room has a wood burning stove with glass front which can heat the cabin (though that is what the furnace is for). Use of the stove is prohibited however when the fire danger is high (during the summer). Years ago when blackouts were frequent the entire family would sleep in the living room if the power went out.
Other amenities include a dining room with a pass-through window to the kitchen. There is also one larger deck and two smaller ones. Firewood is provided free of charge.
Your beds will be made up when you arrive and the cabin will be provided with towels and basic amenities. More linens and other supplies are available in the office as needed.

The Pioneer Living History Center tells the story of early settlers in Yosemite and the Wawona area in particular. These include Galen Clark and John Muir. The Mariposa Grove of Giant Redwoods is about 7 miles away and there is a free shuttle available from Wawona. Skiiing at Badger Pass is about 45 minutes away during the season, and Yosemite Valley is about the same time / distance, both depending on weather. You will pass through the Wawona tunnel to get to the Valley and rewarded by the beautiful Inspiration Point at the far end.
In Wawona, many people enjoy walking to the Swinging Bridge over the South Fork of the Merced. A hike up Chilnualna Falls Creek Trail to the Lower Falls, or if you're more ambitious, to the Upper Falls, is rewarding. There are numerous swimming holes carved out of the granite by water over the millenia. Miwok Indians, who were the original settlers here (and who called this place Wawona, meaning a nice place to stop and rest) would grind their acorns with pestle-like tools using holes in the rock as the mortars. Arrowheads and other artifacts have been found here (but must not be removed).
The Wawona Hotel (which is over 100 years old) has an elegant dining room and is currently the only restaurant in Wawona. Two general stores in town provide a good assortment of food and useful everyday items- there is also a nice gift shop attached to the Park Concessionaire's store.
Many people enjoy golf at the Wawona meadow golf course which is reasonably priced. Of course there is no end to hikes and other outdoor activities including rock climbing, rafting, fishing, swimming and horseback riding.
You will surely want to check out the main attractions in the Park such as Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Bridal Veil Falls, Yosemite Falls, Nevada Falls, the Ahwanhee Hotel, Tuolumne Meadows, Inspiration Point, and Badger Pass to mention just a few. For the hiking enthusiast, there are places within the park that are a four day hike in!
In my opinion, however, one of the very nicest things to do in Wawona is simply to relax. You can go down to the Pine Tree Market and just talk with people who pass by (most folks here are pretty friendly and have the time to talk). There is also a substantial library worthy of a much larger town. The library has free high speed computer access. You might also be interested in checking out the school house- all the children (K - 6) are taught together - reminiscent of the old one room school- and the teacher is also the principal. You can also check out http://home.new.rr.com/Wawona for more details about Wawona, its institutions and attractions, as well as Yosemite National Park.
