March 30, 2009 We just returned from a lovely family vacation at Villa Gordon. The property has many amenities and Gianni, the owner, was available, attentive and easygoing. We had pre-arranged really great cooking services through the owner, and this was one of the highlights of the vacation for our extended family. The house was kept clean, and the caretakers were personable and attentive when needed. The location, close to Tulum, makes the house a bit more remote and away from the bustle of Akumal, if you are looking for a quieter stretch. It is convenient to Xel-Ha and many great cenotes. The great body surfing and sandy beaches of Tulum and Akumal are only a short drive away. Directly in front of the house there is only a small area of sand beach, and many rocky tidal pools. This area has a lot of sea urchins, so it is not the best place to venture into the ocean without protective footwear. The house is billed as a "Villa" and some clarification should be made to the rental listing that notes that this rental property is in fact a separate unit in a three story structure. The pool was kept clean and one of the kids favorite morning activities was rescuing the crabs that had wandered into the pool the prior evening. Artemio, one of the caretakers, was up early attending to the pool and exterior, and was happy to attend to the crab removal, too. The window and door screens on the ocean side of the house were in disrepair, there was construction going on during our stay ( a garage was being built) and the front of the house was a bit of a construction zone (repairs are needed in the fountains and the steps to the house). I think that the house staff, local amenities, fine bedroom suites and cooking made up for a lot!

My family and I just returned from Mexico and were very very happy with our stay at Villa Gordon. I agree with all of Mike's comments who also took the time to post a note. When I was initially researching places to stay on the Maya Riviera I could not find a lot of information about Villa Gordon. However, after MUCH research and comparison, I decided to contact Gianni because the ammenities, location, and price seemed very competitive with other options. I am not a resort person. But I do search out unique properties, with luxurious features, local culture and ambiance, access to activities, privacy, and a comfortable setting that promotes good family time without the fuss and pretention of a large property. Villa Gordon exceeded my expectations. Wow, what a pleasure it was to stay at Villa Gordon. When we arrived, Arienna was waiting for us at the top of the stairs even though it was late. Her husband Carlos immediately came out to help us with our bags. I had pre-ordered groceries by e-mailing a list to Gianni, and it was so nice to show up to a stocked refrigerator with food and beverages. The house is lovely. Gianni lives upstairs, and Carlos and Arienna live downstairs, but it was all very private. Gianni as well as Carlos and Arienna have a wonderful way of being available when you need them but not intrusive. We very much enjoyed learning Spanish from Carlos and teaching him a little bit of English. The bedrooms have airconditioning which was a blessing. The main living/dining/kitchen area when we opened the terrace and front doors always had a very nice breeze blowing. Because of it's oceanfront location, Villa Gordon enjoys a brisk ocean breeze. Our vacation was in June, and we had a few stormy days, but overall the weather was just fine. The waves one day were quite huge and a little rough. However, a short 10 minute walk around either side to a quiet bay provided numerous opportunities for fabulous snorkeling. When the weather was not stormy, we enjoyed terrific snorkeling right out in front of the house. Water shoes are a must. There is a sandy beach right in front of the house, but there is plenty of coral and sharp rocks in the water. Not a problem, you just need to come prepared. We all spent hours exploring the tide pools. This was an amazingly relaxing part of our vacation. Each and every morning, my husband and I took our coffee at the top of the beach and just watched and listened to the waves roll in. It was also turtle season so a couple of nights we (carefully without bright lights) watched for the turtles to come in. We didn't spot any turtles, but we did spot the tracks and had a fascinating conversation with the local team employed to protect the nests of turtles. They routinely walk the beach and mark the nests. For those who are worried about activities, fear not. There is so much to do. We spent an extraordinary day at Xel Ha (highly recommended), we went horse back riding at AktunChen, took the ferry to Cozumel, explored Tulum (fabulous beach), planned to snorkel Akumel (weather did not cooperate, but Gianni says it's fabulous), and many many other things! I enjoyed shopping at the grocery store in Tulum. It was very well stocked and we ate everything. We were careful to wash the produce very well and then dry it. No one got sick and I made everything from steak fajitas to fresh salsa. Tulum has some great restaurants too. We enjoyed great sandwiches at Cafe Espresso. We rented a car from Hertz, and with some careful driving and awareness of the local driving habits, we got along just fine. I highly recommend Villa Gordon. The service and accomodations were lovely and attentive, and also provided a quality vacation at a competitive price. Thank you again!

Hi, I just stayed at Villa Gordon (feb 2007) with 2 other families (6 adults 8 kids) and cannot recommend it more highly. The owner (Gianni) catered to all of our needs and the service at the house (cleaning/cooking) was excellent. The house is split up into 3 sections.. Gianni has the top floor, we had the main floor and Elizabeth and her family live in the basement. It's all very separate though and does not feel cramped or crowded or like you're living w/a bunch of people. There are 4 very nice rooms (each w/a bathroom), a common area that includes the kitchen and "family" room. The pool is good size and was kept very clean. Gianni went out of his way to get 5-6 different pool toys/inflateable things for our kids. The pool deck is great .. Gianni clearly isn't afraid of spending some money so that his guests get what they think they are paying for. The beach is one of the nicest in the immediate area. Most of the beach area up and down this general area is very corally w/o much sand. Villa Gordon has a very nice sandy area (roughly 200'X100') with lots of cool tide pools, millions of shells, coral, etc. The kids loved this. The really great long beaches are 15 minutes away either north or south. There is a nice cenote (lagoon/cavern) about a mile from Villa Gordon that the kids (and adults) loved swimming in. It's not as impressive as Dos Ojos or Hidden World (google them if you aren't familiar) but it's fun, nearly free (a buck) and close (1km from Villa Gordon) . I'd strongly recommend using his cooking service. We would let Gianni know what we wanted to eat then he'd go get it and Elizabeth would cook it.. it was all done very professionally, comfortably, deliciously, and for a very reasonable price. I could probably rave about a few more details but you get the jist.. this is a good spot owned by a very good and honest person. Just for good measure I should probably include a rant but I can't think of any...
