...Our returning guests always comment about how they loved the layout of the house with separate floors. You can have togetherness when you want it and privacy when you need it.
The separate floors with two distinct living areas will be perfect for families. There are two kitchens and two living rooms. The bottom floor, the Ocean Studio is a mini self -contained Studio Apartment.
The sleeping arrangements are:
3rd Floor Penthouse Suite has King Bed in Master Bedroom with private en suite bathroom. The waves lull you to sleep on all floors. The 2nd bedroom has a Queen Bed and will have their own private use of the guest bath. There is a Queen Sofa Bed in the living room with spectacular views.
2nd Floor Orchid Suite has King Bed in Master Bedroom with private en suite bathroom. The 2nd bedroom has a Queen Bed and uses guest bath. There is also a Queen Sofa Bed in the living room with spectacular views out the giant picture postcard redwood windows that pull all the way back.
1st Floor Ocean Studio is complete with a Queen bed with en suite bathroom, a twin trundle bed and a kitchenette with Fridge, Microwave and Coffee Maker. The ocean is just feet from your bedroom. Spectacular Ocean views through the sliding doors from the Queen Bed.
The house is located 3 miles south of Kailua Kona Town and 11 miles south of Kona Airport. It is a nice walk to town from the house, especially in the early mornings. Restaurants, shopping, golfing and grocery stores are all within 2 -3 miles of the house. The address is 76-6280 Alii Drive, Kailua Kona, HI 96740.
There is a designated Shoreline Access next to the house where you can enter the ocean. Experienced snorkelers only please. Here is where the turtles live and feed. There are also a few tide pools that are about one or two feet deep which offer ideal wading for children protected from the waves. Watch the Local kids boogie boarding in this bay and the surfers in the distance.
One mile south of the house is White Sands Beach which has beautiful white sand April/May through November/December. This beach is also known as Magic Sands Beach as the sand magically disappears around November/December and then reappears April/May. The best all year snorkeling & swimming on this side of the island is at Turtle Beach (Kahaluu State Beach).. 2 miles south. This is a salt and pepper beach outlined in lava. The outer reefs protect the bay from strong waves. Because the sand is coarse, the water is clear... it offers the best snorkeling and is perfect for novices and beginners. You can be guaranteed to swim with or see Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles. You might even see one basking in the sand on the beach.
Shangrila is a custom built, 3 story house by the famous Hawaii designer/architect, Lucky Bennett - In true Mediterranean style, the heated pool caresses one side of the house. The pool is oceanfront and solar heated for your comfort with depths of 3 ft. to 8 ft.. Illuminate the Pool at night, light the Tikki Torches and.. you have your own private mini resort !
