Gaucin is located on the very edge of the Ronda mountains & overlooks Gibraltar, the Straits, & the Rif mountains in Morocco. It is in the path of migratory birds; Iberians, Romans and Moors occupied its castle, and it is an ideal place to hike. Ronda is only 25 minutes away on a new road, and the Coast is 25 minutes away.

Popular activities in the Ronda mountains are hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding. There are three "picaderos" (riding rings & trail rides) nearby. The largest virgen forest in all of Europe is at the township limits --- 100´s of square kilometers in size, mainly a cork forest, a tree native to the Iberian penninsula. Excursions: beaches, towns - Ronda, Algeciras, Gibraltar, and Tangier in Morocco are very accessible; cities - Cádiz, Granada, Sevilla, Córdoba; archaeological remains. Gaucin is also right in the path of major bird migrations, and a haven for bird watchers, esp. in season.
