Sea turtles found on Kealakekua Bay. This is a marine preserve and you can swim with the dolphins or sea turtles, octopuses, and almost all the other tropical fish found in Hawaii's waters.
Coffee farms offer tours and samples of famous Kona coffee throughout the rural areas.
Puuhonau O Honaunau National Historic Park, or the City of Refuge (highly recommended) gives you the feel for the former way of life in a partially restored 16th century village. You will see thatched huts, canoes, idols, and a temple that has the bones of several Hawaiian chiefs. Set on a peaceful white sand beach that is memorable.
Two Step, nicknamed such because of the land formation underwater, is right in this area, about a hundred yards north of the City of Refuge. It's another fantastic place for either snorkeling or diving.
Kaahaluu Beach Park. This has got to be one of the best snorkeling places in the world. It is a pretty, but unpretentious setting. One of the things that makes it good, in addition to the variety of fish you will see, is the fact that it is a really safe place to snorkel. It is good for children, older people, or those who can't swim.
Traditional Hawaiian Lu'aus are offered at several locations, and well worth the cost.
Everyone should visit the Hilton Waikoloa village for a full day trip.
Free transport to galleries, dolphin quest, restaurants and shops.
The Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii. (tel.297341). Has a number of ongoing experiments and applications of ocean technology, all very interesting.
Hapuna Beach is a bit of a drive but probably as close to a perfect beach as you'll find
in the state -- fine, golden white sand maybe half a mile long and a couple hundred feet wide. It's a fine place for building sand castles and boogie boarding. There's seldom much of an undertow. It has a small snack bar, and showers. Conde Nast Traveler magazine has declared this the best beach in the nation. The beach is about a half an hour's drive north of Kailua-Kona near the 69 mile marker off Highway 19.

Shannon! Wow! I honestly almost cried when we had to leave! I can't believe you choose not to live there all the time. What an amazing, magical place! We made friends with a couple of our neighbors, ate delicious mangos from the mango tree outside, watched sunsets right out our door every night, ate dinners on the beautiful lanai, and of course did absolutely anything and everything we could all over the Big Island and in the town of Kona! Thank you thank you thank you! Everything was fantastic. I'm still depressed having come back to "the real world" and seeing this site with the pictures certainly didn't help!

Shannon, How do I begin? The condo...modern, beautiful, everything we could have wanted or needed...and even more than we expected. The bed was almost too pretty to sleep on. The entire condo was equally beautiful and everything, everything was immaculate! Nothing was left out or missing. Based on your suggestions, we had many days of adventuring but returned "home" each evening to a restful dinner on the lanai and hours of the of the Pacific splashing and crashing a few feet away. It was wonderful watching the fishing fleet go out en -masse each morning as we enjoyed our "Kona" on the lanai while playing peek-a-boo with the unbelievably- colored geikos. They finally decided we were no threat and would sun themselves as we relaxed nearby. The entire complex was wonderfully groomed and the work was done so that you hardly knew the workers were there. The pool and deck were always sparkling clean and even though we were near enough to "downtown" to pop out to get anything we might want, once we drove into the complex, there was absolutely no street noise! Quiet!... ahhh. We did a lot of adventuring (almost 900 miles on the rental car) but we Did see the Big Island! Thank you so very much for opening your condo so others may enjoy Hawai'i and thank you for making it a dream-come-true-vacation for me and my cousin, Kay. Needless to say, we were both a little misty-eyed as we closed the door to leave. She lives in Florida and I in North Carolina, so it is a long trip over but worth every travel-minute! I am still looking for the bumper sticker I saw the last day we were there that read "Aloha Y'all." I wish I had spied it the first day we were there, not the last.
Mahalo and much Aloha!

Shannon, I was more then impressed by your lovely comfortable rental. I loved how clean and fully stocked the condo was. It was above and beyond what I had expected. The Patio area was perfect for dinners witht he sun setting. The best surprise was the Gorgeous bed! We also enjoyed movies on the flat screen TV in the living room. The air conditioning worked great as well. We enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to come back! Many thanks! Mahalo!
