One of our favorite places of the outdoor living area at Vista dos Mares is the special, more intimate lower pool deck where you can escape to read and relax on the hammock or have lunch at a table in the shade.
Our open and airy house is designed to combine indoor and outdoor living with 4 distinct patios.
However you choose to enjoy Vieques, at Vista dos Mares we will provide you with all the necessary information to explore what the island has to offer: kayaking, snorkeling, scuba diving, nature tours, moonlight Bioluminescent Bay excursions, yoga classes, local bars and restaurants, grocery stores, where to meet the locals, who to call in an emergency. We willl also tell you how to arrange for maid service, a private chef, tour guides, instructors, massages, etc.

Upper pool deck: On the same level as the pool itself, this is where the action is! The upper deck is tiled in striking heat-resistant, multi-colored lava rock. This expansive deck area features a wet bar, private glass block heated outdoor shower, teak dining table for up to 8, chaise lounges, pillows, patio umbrellas, wrap-around polished concrete benches, floral planters and views from every angle.
Lower pool deck: Situated just below the pool is a more intimate lower deck. With the same awesome panoramic views as the upper deck, this is a peaceful and expansive -- outdoor world unto itself. Tiled in gorgeous Barcelona Spanish tiles, newly planted indigenous flowers and bushes spill over a curving planter spanning the entire 50 length of this deck. The cozy setting includes a teak cushioned sofa , chair and ottoman, a coffee table, and an inviting hammock. At the far end, theres also a rattan table and chairs for four, suitable for a quiet lunch or a snack overlooking the endless views.
Garden Apartment Terrace: Off the one-bedroom and studio apartments, another large and very private tiled patio gracefully curves out into the garden of green and flowering indigenous plantings. Theres a comfy table and chairs for eating or reading in this very enchanting outdoor nook.
Dual-level off-Dining Room Terrace: Walk through the dining rooms French doors onto a bi-level tiled patio, with views of both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The lower patio is for relaxing with 2 chaise lounges, an umbrella and a hammock. The upper patio is comfortable for outdoor dining on a round glass table and chairs shaded by an all-weather Sunbrella canopy. Look left out over the blue Caribbean Sea and the world famous Bioluminescent Bay. Or look right over the palm trees at the Atlantic Ocean with its sweeping views of Puerto Rico, Culebra and St. Thomas in the distance.

If you are choosing to rent an island home for your vacation, you probably already prefer to experience an island like a local. That is our preference and so we would like you to make our comfy home yours for your stay on the very special island of Vieques, Puerto Rico.We love Vieques because it is not like any other Caribbean island. Vieques was named 2008 Best Caribbean Island by Travel & Leisure Magaine. While growing, it is still relatively untouched by modern commercialism. No chain stores, no traffic lights, and wild horses still roam about (be careful driving at night). There are plenty of adventures to amuse and entertain you on this island. We wont bother to list all of the restaurants, kayak rental agencies, Bio-Bay trips or the amazingly quiet beaches here because the following links do a much more thorough (and up-to-date) job than we could ever hope to.Suffice it to say that Vieques is not just a vacation destination. It is a thriving tropical community, for natives as well as ex-pats. All the conveniences necessary to sustain this community are here, including markets, hardware stores, pharmacies, etc.Living in our home will be a completely different experience than staying at a hotel. We encourage you to get out and appreciate living on Vieques as a local resident would. Visit the supermarkets and cook at home one night, go to the bakery off the main drag in Esperanza and bring home some warm baked bread and doughnuts for breakfast.
