LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! AAAAAAANND! --- A game room - complete with Foosball, and full-size pool/air hockey/ping pong table. Floats, water toys, Kayak( beginners), Wind surfer, skates, bikes, etc. LOCATION* Two Blocks from Downtown!
Simply walk downtown to a handicap-access fishing and observation pier, liquor store, 2 mobile fish mongers, two bait stores, 6 restaurants, 2 nightclubs, shops, grocery stores and cappuccino bar.
Enjoy wonderful views of the Gulf! Rock away on the front porch while watching dolphins feed morning and late afternoons in the surf (binoculars provided). Sidle on up to the surf to catch your dinner of flounder, red fish, whiting, pompano, blue fish, lady fish, speckled trout, cobia, spanish mackerel, or jack Crevalle just to name a few. Or... charter a boat for the big ones - grouper, tuna, snapper, exotic triple tails, etc.!!! If your sea legs are weak as mine, I suggest you do a skinny water (shallow bay) charter. Lots of action in the 1 to 9 foot waters on bayside year round.
This is a beautiful, spacious, remodeled, 5-year-old home with ten-foot ceilings, ceramic tile floor, and carpeted bedrooms. It has a full-length deck covered but open, (no mosquitos, they can't take the salty ocean breeze), looking out to the Gulf with the same view from all four bedrooms. Another rear deck overlooks the hot tub cascading into a heated pool in a private, fenced, custom landscaped area. The pool area also features an outside bar.
Features include seven TVs with VCRs and or DVD (plus a PLAY STATION II), CD/stereo, bicycles, binoculars and Florida birdwatching guide book, video and book library, dishwasher, microwave, washer, dryer, enclosed outside shower, fish-cleaning station, ample 7 car covered parking, charcoal grill, gas barbecue (BYO propane). Beds include one king, two queen, two singles, queen futon, and one queen sleeper sofa.
Also, all the accoutrements to visit the beach in style, i.e. beach chairs and umbrellas, simply fold em up for tomorrow. Life is easy with the right stuff!!! (Please! Rinse off sand before storing at weeks end) There is a spacious shower outside with hot and cold water. Leave the sand outside and enjoy. Let the kids do this fun chore with the handy hose at foot of back stairs. Also please keep pools water level up to 1/2 of the skimmer box. See instructions poolside.
Things to do include, golf @ St. James Resort, miniature golf, volley ball and beer(optional), behind The Blue Parrot 1 1/2 blocks east down the beach, biking, roller blading, jogging, walk the 25 miles of paths just behind your house.
Or, for a big challenge and view of the east cut between St. George and Dog Island, bike to the east end of Five-Star Rated Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park. (the island is 29 miles long) Bike, walk, or four-wheel drive the last five miles past paved road into parks mandated four-wheel drive country. It is five miles to the very east end past many opportunities to see nature at its finest. You will enjoy the Islands fishing at its very best from this vantage point. Pack a lunch, you will want to stay awhile. And by all means bring water to hydrate yourself.
Hog oysters at low tide, i.e. simply bust 'em loose and harvest up a five-gallon bucket. That is the daily maximum take per person. Or, if you are not that energetic simply bear right (East),just over the bridge leaving the island and stop by Fred's Best Seafood 32 Patton Drive, wholesale oysters and fish are a guaranteed catch of fresh seafood. Or, you may want to enjoy the many generations' old art of raking (harvesting) and culling (cleaning) them straight from the bay by boat with Fred's son Randy.
He is a personable native of Eastpoint who can tell you stories of lore from the time you step onto his boat till you shuck and suck your last one of the day, (ask him if he feels like playing his guitar his whole family is blessed with country rhythm). He will even combine an oyster trip with a tie up under the shade of the old bridge for some guaranteed sheep head, and black drum fishing.
That is, the bites are guaranteed. Sheep Head in particular are pretty crafty when using their visible THE JOKER like rows of teeth to crack open your fiddler crab bait, and be gone with it's meat in a subtle instant.
Look in the kitchen for many simple recipes on how to prepare them all.
Fifteen minutes off the Island there are Apalachicola restaurants and shops abound. Also, Carrabelle eight miles to the east will feature a few on the list. One of my favorites for atmosphere and old Florida charm is at the Wakulla Springs, 35 minutes east and north. Look it up on the to do list for more details, i.e. dinosaur skeletons on display.
An extraordinary display of birds and fish can be seen by glass bottom boat with a really funny and personable guide. Also, do the other springs while your in the area, some provide a canoe for your personal pleasure. The list will be in your home in the living area.
If you rent a boat, do not be confined to circling the Dog Island and St Vincents Islands, especially, if the wind is kicking up a choppy water condition. Go up the rivers and see the interesting floating river homes on the banks. They are reminiscent of Cajun country living on the Mississippi river. The fishing is phenomenal, lots of freshwater varieties. Maps are available at the bait stores. And, do not forget to check out the many lakes in the area.
If you like hiking, remember Franklin County is 69% National or State Park. That is why it is one of the best investments on the Panhandle. Supply and demand drives a market. E-mail me for more on that.
