Welcome to our Brownstone Brooklyn Bed & Breakfast. A homey, affordable alternative to a New York City Hotel. We offer quiet, clean, tastefully Furnished Rooms for rent by the night in our Historic Brooklyn Home. We serve breakfast every morning! Let us pamper you while you stay in New York City! Come Stay in one of our beautiful sun-drenched rooms in our 1898 Brooklyn townhouse! Our Bed & Breakfast is on a quiet, tree-lined block in Lefferts Manor, a one-family charterted section of the New York City Landmark area known as Prospect Lefferts Gardens Historic District.
This lovely little neighborhood of Brooklyn was originally part of the estate of wealthy Brooklyn agricultural baron and landowner James Lefferts. During the Brooklyn housing boom of the 1890's, he developed the area into a pastoral alternative to the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope. At the same time Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, the brilliant naturalists and landscape designers of Manhattan's Central Park, were just completing their work on Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, gracing Brooklyn with their artful touch.
Today, Lefferts Manor is a quiet, tree-lined family neighborhood cherished for it's beautifully preserved, museum-quality brownstones, limestone and many Italianate brickwork townhouses. The tranquility of Lefferts Manor is due in part to the original one-family zoning that James Lefferts insisted upon, which has been in place since the turn-of-the-century, and has kept our historic Brooklyn townhouses from being converted into multiple-family dwellings.
James Lefferts wanted a stable, upper-middle class enclave of fine housing stock, where families moved in and stayed, and his plan seems to have worked well. Lefferts Manor is known to have an extremely low turnover rate for its homes.
To this day, almost all of the homes in Lefferts Manor are occupied by families and many of them are only the second or third owners in the lifetime of the properties. When we bought our home eight years ago, the property had only changed hands once in 102 years! We became the proud third owners of 80 Rutland Road. There is actually one family still in the neighborhood whose great-grandparents were the original owners of the house!
