Nearby Attractions of Rose Harbor Suite Vacation Rental
The house is located in a cozy and quiet neighborhood one house away from Ocean Avenue which follows the Kennebunk River along its journey from "the port" at one end to some spectacular ocean scenery and historic landmarks at the other.
Turn right - for a short walk or bike ride along the river to Dock Square where you will find a picturesque village with dozens of art galleries, antique and gift shops and a wide variety of restaurants, many of which are among the best to be found anywhere in New England.
There are canoe and kayak rentals and touring boats available for sight seeing, whale watching and fishing trips can also be arranged.
Turn left - to walk along the river less than a mile to the closest beach and jetty. Continue on to Walker's Point - the summer home of former President Bush and a bit further to the historic stone church, St. Anne's. Ocean Avenue is a great walk or bike ride and you will see some of the most spectacular vistas around.
Or, turn around - and walk through the neighborhood with its mix of small cottages, opulent modern homes and old colonial mansions as the narrow back streets wind around inlets and up and down small hills while offering passers by rare glimpses of ocean views few will ever see. The streets all eventually connect to Ocean Road, which halfway encircles the neighborhood.
Of course, you can drive to any of these destinations, but whenever possible, I recommend walking or biking to really 'take it all in' on land and canoeing or kyaking to explore the many inlets and coves along the tidal river.
There are many other area attractions nearby such as the Rachel Carson Wildlife Preserve and Laudholm Farm, the Franciscan Monastery, the Brickstore Museum, the Trolley Museum, dozens of nearby beaches - rocky and sandy, large and small, lighthouses and much more.
For more information on the entire area, you can visit the Southern Maine Coast Tourism Association, a non-profit association of 8 Chambers of Commerce representing 14 communities in southern Maine at: http://www.southernmainecoast.org/.
