Description & Details of Opera
3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, 6 Sleeps.

Opera is centrally located in a private Renaissance palazzo in Florence that was built in 1420 by Brunelleschi and was just restored in 2012.

In the 16th century the “Camerata Fiorentina” used to meet in this apartment, which was the palazzo's theatre during the Reinassance. The Florentine Camerata created new musical principles, merging music to the 33rd “Canto” of Dante Alighieri's Inferno, giving birth to what is now known as Lyrical Opera.

Still hanging from the ceiling of the theatre are the scenic machinery used at that time. The building is considered the first step towards a new model of private Renaissance palaces in Florence, changing the late gothic architecture.

The courtyard of the palazzo is decorated with Andrea della Robbia majolicas, a crown of big columns typical of Brunelleschi's style, antique marbles and precious Renaissance ironworks.

The Camerata is located on the Piano Nobile (second floor) and is a two level apartment. Opera's interior décor is a combination of the finest contemporary Italian design and Florentine architectural detail. The interiors are superbly decorated with original 18th century frescoes. Bauhaus period furniture are from the best designers: Van der Rohe, Eames, Le Corbusier, matching a precious 17th century sofa and two Medieval terracotta statues. Castiglioni, Flos and Fontanarte lighting gives very special atmosphere in the evening.

Additional Information

Surrounded by hills, Florence rises on the banks of the Arno River. One of the greatest art centers of Italy, Florence is home to the Accademia, where you can view Michelangelo's David, as well as the Uffizi gallery, arguably the most important art gallery in the world.

Tour the cathedral with its pink, white and green marble façade and marvel at its remarkable Duomo by Brunelleschi and the gold Paradise door of the Baptistery. Continue to the Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of Florence since the 1300s. Then stroll by the charming jewelry shops of Ponte Vecchio. There is nothing like enjoying a morning coffee and truffle panini at the celebrated Procacci bar before setting out for a serious morning of shopping on Via Tournabuoni. Take a day to scour the Gucci, Armani and Yves Saint Laurent outlets in the outskirts of the city.

For those wishing to explore some of Tuscany's other treasures, one of the best ways to see the region is by automobile. The small fortress cities are within easy driving distance of one another, and each offers its own special appeal, from the picturesque medieval cities of San Gimignano and Volterra to Pisa with its Leaning Tower and Lucca with its impressive Renaissance walls. Visit seaside resorts like Viareggio, Elba, and Forte de Marmi. Do not forget other worthwhile Chianti sights such as the wine villages of Castellina, Radda and Volpaia.

Siena is also not to be missed. Siena is a beautifully preserved medieval city, constructed of checkerboard brick, and crowned by its Duomo. It was the seat of the Ghibellines who often crossed swords with the Florentine Guelfs during the 13th century. Other highlights of Siena include the beautiful Piazza del Campo where on July 2nd and August 16th of each year the famous Palio takes place.
