Named one of the 'Best Inns in Mexico' by both Frommer's and Fodor's guide books, La Casa de Espíritus Alegres Bed & Breakfast offers modern luxury in a 17th century hacienda filled with folk art from all parts of Mexico. Indulge yourself with delicious breakfasts, relax in the tropical garden, and enjoy the extraordinary experience of La Casa de Espíritus Alegres B&B.

"La Casa de Espíritus Alegres," or House of Good Spirits, dates back to the 1700's, when haciendas were built along the river in Marfil to process silver from the mines in Valenciana. These magnificent estates were reduced to ruins by a flood in 1906. The area remained virtually ignored until the 1950's when Georgio Belloli, an Italian sculptor, began restoring them and creating homes, incorporating architectural features such as stone carvings and columns collected from ruins throughout Mexico.

Joan and Carol Summers, artists from California, bought one of the houses in 1979. They continued the restoration, building terraces overlooking the garden, constructing a separate studio where they could work, and modernizing the plumbing and wiring.
