You might expect the property to be out-of-the-way, but it's in the very heart of the city, within walking distance of attractions from Ripley's Ghost Train to all the antique and art galleries of San Marco Avenue. Hypolita Street is just around the corner, and South Castillo is a block and a half away. The only drawback of visting the Old City is parking -- and you have free, safe, off-street parking right in front of Garden Cottage!
Garden Cottage has been extensively restored, so it combines modern convenience with authentic charm and period accuracy. This studio is one large room with a small bathroom and kitchenette. Big windows afford lovely garden views, and everything is cozy, well maintained, and quaint. If you're seeking the perfect getaway, look no further!
Step through the shimmery summer curtains and open the door of Garden Cottage. You find yourself looking at a Regency-era room, the walls a rosy shade of pink with elegant white picture-frame wainscoting. The floor is polished parquet, set about with soft Oriental rugs. A floor lamp and several table lamps offer soft golden lighting, and a ceiling fan circulates the air-conditioning nicely.
In the center of the room is a huge, king-sized bed in a four-poster frame, ultra-comfortable and so spacious. Two gilt-finished easy chairs stand at its feet, facing a small TV on a shelf in the wall. All the furniture is antique and very useable -- it makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time, not just visited a museum!
Turn around from the rosy-pink walls and ornate furnishings and you see that the front walls have been left as natural wood planks with simple, sturdy black hinges, much as they must have looked when first built. The kitchenette is in this area, with a serving hatch that doubles as a little bistro table for two.
The kitchen contains a microwave, coffeemaker, mini-fridge, counter space, and cupboards -- just what you need to reheat the delicious leftovers from the Café del Hidalgo and Columbia Restaurant, or brew a strong morning cup of java to enjoy in the garden! You'll find all the mugs, plates, and utensils you need waiting for you here.
The bathroom at Garden Cottage is quite small, with a shower, sink, and commode. Neat corner shelves hold your toiletries, and the tile floor feels great on hot walking feet! All of the towels you need are provided for you here, as are the linens for the bed. Pack light and prepare to find your studio getaway fully equipped when you get here!
With its lovely garden view and cozy interior, the downstairs studio at Garden Cottage makes the perfect destination for a couple or for friends. And the exterior is almost as exciting, with a brick courtyard, comfortable bench amid the flower beds, and plenty of lush vegetation!
If you have a larger group, consider renting the upstairs studio as well as the downstairs. It is also furnished for two, with an exterior staircase leading up through the treetops!
