Reviews for ESA PORTLAND-BEAVERTON
I chose this hotel based upon my options from my work travel site. My first impression was not favorable at all. As a business traveler, I expect that my accommodations will be a lot more accommodating. Starting with the positive – the room was clean, the bed was acceptable and the air conditioning worked very well. The location was very close and convenient to the work location where I was spending my week. The issues I had were – upon check-in I was told that there would be NO housekeeping at all during my stay (odd….) When I went to my room, there was an adequate kitchen but NO coffee maker or anything else that would make the full size refrigerator, cooktop and microwave usable – No plates, cups, glasses or utensils that come standard in most other similar hotel setups. I learned that you had to “place an order” to have those items provided to your room – I did not. There was no ice machine, that I was made aware of. The closet was too small to accommodate the hangers and the hangers were cheap plastic that would not have been able to handle the weight of any reasonable business suit. There was no hairdryer, I learned later that you could also “order” a hairdryer, and the usual expectation of any soaps, shampoo, or conditioner was merely a past experience that did not carry over to this hotel. The towels appeared to be clean but they were very small. The shower was decent but the water pressure restricted due to the showerhead made it such that a shower took a lot longer than it should in order to remove the soap (that the traveler brought with them) used during a normal shower. There was only one elevator – which worked very well but it was at the opposite end of where my room was located. There were LOTS of stairwells. Stairs are not acceptable for carrying heavy suitcases that most travelers have. When I called the front desk to ask for a wakeup call I was told that they “are not allowed to provide wake up calls”. For a business traveler this is not a good practice. There was an alarm clock in the room but trying to figure out a new alarm clock does not a happy business traveler make. They did provide coffee in the lobby and single granola bars or small muffins in the morning. I was wise enough to ask ahead of time if I would need to check out at the desk, I was told yes – for most hotels that accommodate business travelers, the final bill is slipped under your door the morning of your departure. There were at least 5 people from my company at this location for the week and the comments and feedback from my co-workers were much less complimentary than what I am posting here. One of my coworkers spent most of his time doing laps around the mall in an effort to spend as little time in his room as possible. This hotel is more of a hostel setting and not one for a Business Traveler who is looking for a “home away from home”.
