Location. The Kruisherenthotel Maastricht is a boutique hotel located in Maastricht, the Netherlands, 300 metres from the terraces and shops of the city's focal point, Vrijthof Square. The Maastricht exhibition and congress centre is two kilometres away, and the hotel is six kilometres from the airport. Hotel Features. Converted from a 15th-century monastery, the Kruisherenthotel Maastricht still retains many spectacular original gothic features. Created by interior designer Henk Vos, the hotel combines a strikingly modern lobby with beautiful medieval architecture, including huge cathedral-style windows. The former nave of the church is now a library with stone walls, and the former chancel is a mezzanine restaurant.
French cooking is the speciality at the hotel's Entresol restaurant, which has a painted ceiling and views of the city through the original vaulted windows. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, and there is also a wine bar with red sofas, serving finger food and snacks, and an outdoor cafe.
Business services and audio-visual equipment are provided for those using the three meeting rooms.
Guests can hire bicycles direct from the hotel, and a discount is available at a nearby leisure facility. There is also a patio and picnic area in the grounds.
Guestrooms. The 60 air-conditioned guestrooms are decorated individually with furniture by designers such as Philippe Starck and Marc Newson. Some rooms are situated in the former cloisters. Amenities include satellite television, high-speed Internet connections, and minibars. Complimentary bottled water is provided, and bathrooms have bathrobes and complimentary designer toiletries.
Expert Tip. Maastricht has a carnival every year which starts on November 11. The city is also host to the European Fine Art fair.
