Built in 1858 as a home for Baron van Brienen, and renovated in 2005, the Hotel des Indes is located opposite the Lange Voorhout Palace Museum in The Hague. The 92 guestrooms feature modern and antique furnishings such as red glass wall hangings and patterned glass. All include satellite television, Internet connections, minibars, and safes. Bathrooms have black marble floors and come with rainfall showers, bathrobes, and hair dryers.
The hotel has played host to numerous celebrities and heads of state over the years, including President Roosevelt, President Chirac, Tony Blair, Anna Pavlova, Mata Hari, and the Spice Girls. Guests can relax in the grand atrium, fully restored with an enormous modern glass chandelier as the centrepiece. The hotel's health club offers an indoor marble swimming pool, as well as gym facilities, a steam bath, a solarium, and a variety of spa treatments. The restaurant is adjacent to the lounge and serves refined French cuisine with a Mediterranean flavour. The restaurant is open for lunch Monday to Friday and for dinner Monday to Saturday. There is a bar on the ground floor, and the lounge is decorated with Corinthian columns and classical ornaments; it is open all day serving drinks, snacks, and afternoon tea made using loose tea leaves and mineral water, with cakes served on ornate stands. Meeting rooms are available for business meetings or parties from six to 100 guests, and wireless Internet access is available in public areas throughout the hotel. Nearby attractions include the Lange Voorhout Palace Museum opposite the hotel, and the Mauritshuis Museum 800 metres away. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is 45 kilometres from the hotel, around 45 minutes by car.
