Key Largo feels different the moment you arrive. It is the first, largest, and most visited tropical island of the spectacular Florida Keys.
Known as the DIVE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, getting into or under the water is what makes a trip to Key Largo worthwhile. Our house is conveniently located next to world famous John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park which has two beaches and a replica of a shipwreck in the water that is great for snorkeling or diving.
You can take a glass-bottom boat ride over part of the reef, go on a snorkeling tour via motorboat or sailing catamaran, as well as rent a canoe or see-through raft. The beach has two great nature trails for hiking, and some of the subtropical fish can even be seen from shore. The waters surrounding Key Largo are teeming with game fish. You can go after the big ones with a Key Largo charter boat captain, or fish with a backcountry guide in the waters of Florida Bay or the Everglades. Key Largo Hammocks State Botanical site, with its unusual plants and wildlife, is one of the best places on the island for a sheltered bike ride. Birdwatchers wont be disappointed. There is 6 miles of biking/walking path along overseas highway.
The islands beauty has attracted a large number of artists whose work is displayed at local galleries. Other shops, bars, and restaurants are as varied as they are plentiful.
There is a fabulous Key Largo Community Park 3 miles south, where there are 3 pools, a water park, lighted tennis courts, fitness track, rollerblade and bicycle trail, and various classes such as water aerobics and yoga.
Also close to Sun Cruz Casino, Dolphin Encounter, Theater of the Sea, and a movie theater.
With only a few exceptions, everything in the Keys tends to be casual, in dress, service and food. The tropical paradise of Key Largo is only 56 miles south of Miami International Airport, but feels a world away.

May 2008 From the west coast to the east coast, we've come to celebrate Casey's graduation from UM. We enjoyed snorkeling off Key Largo, the John Pennekamp Park and a day trip to Key West. Papa remembered Sloppy Joes from 1948!!! The house was just right.

What a great house. We were comfortable and enjoyed the area, the flora and fauna. The coffee House is great and we couldn't say enough about the Encore. Wonderful week in a great house! Ray - you were right on about "Hobo's." We recommend it to everyone also. It's on 1 (south from the house) on the oceanside. We also loved the glass bottom boat @ the state park, Captain Sterling "Encounter of the Everglades" and 2 days at Key West. It's a 2 hour drive each way. Why rush? Also we highly recommend deep sea fishing. Your catch can be prepared at Hobo's if you like. Thanks again,

We had a great time renting you're clean and beautifull house! We came to Key Largo for dolphin therapy for our son, it was a 3 minute drive to the dolphin cove, so that was great!
