About the House >>
This St John vacation rental consists of three richly-hued pavilions centered around a private trellised courtyard, on a hillside above beautiful Haulover Bay which features some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean. The location of the house offers secluded privacy, but is only a convenient 10-minute drive from the town of Coral Bay with its quaint local bars, shops, and international-caliber restaurants.
A 40' lap pool runs the length of the courtyard with a jetted hot-tub at one end for relaxing after a workout in the pool or a day at the beach. Teak lounge chairs on the deck around the pool create a perfect spot for private sunbathing.
A central pavilion contains the living room and a gourmet kitchen, while the two side pavilions each contain a separate bedroom suite. Both bedroom suites have closets, bathrooms, balconies, and completely private slate-lined outdoor showers with a view of the sea. The bedrooms of this St John vacation rental are furnished with Italian beds, ceiling fans, and air-conditioning. Sleeping lofts tucked into the roof rafters of the bedroom pavilions can accommodate kids or extra guests. Each of the two lower bedroom pavilions, while on the same level as the courtyard and living room, is completely private to the rest of the Retreat.
Openness and flow of light shapes the serene interiors of each pavilion. High, wood-framed ceilings crown soft white walls and rich slate floors. One complete side of each room is glazed roll-up doors that open to allow life to spill onto the patios and decks that surround the buildings. Roll-down insect screens cover these openings as the need arises.
The central pavilion and two bedroom pavilions project off the side of the hill above the tranquil bay 100 feet below. Pods of dolphins play offshore, visible from every room. Paths lead down to the beach, where the warm waters teem with life. Just wade in to see waving soft corals, brilliant fish of all sizes, and multi-hued hard corals. Day and night, the open spaces, spectacular views, and simple interiors of the house perfectly complement and frame this spectacular setting.

The Retreat is designed to accommodate up to 10 guests, its two separate bedroom suites allowing families or couples to enjoy complete privacy. On either side of the main pavilion, each of the two bedroom pavilions contains a European king bed, a loft with an extra-long double bed (accessed by a pull-down wooden ladder), a separate bathroom and an outdoor shower with ocean views. Both bedroom suites are air conditioned and are equipped with ceiling fans.
The well-equipped gourmet kitchen in the main pavilion offers ocean views as well as a gas range, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, trash-compactor, professional quality cookware, and eating bar. A laundry area with washer and dryer is adjacent to the kitchen.
The living room of The Retreat, also in the main pavilion, contains comfortable seating and dining areas, along with a television, VCR, DVD player and library of books and movies.

There is a charge of $400 per week for each additional one to two guests.

No-shows, late arrivals, reductions in number of persons in your group after arrival, and early departures are all non-refundable. I have stayed at The Retreat several times now, and it has always been an absolute treat. This is easily the most beautiful and unique guest house I've stayed at on St. John (or anywhere else in the Caribbean). The views are perfect, nearby Haulover Bay beach is the best snorkeling spot on the island, and the beds are a dream come true (I want one of these mattresses for myself)! Definitely recommended.
