A century old Buddhist temple is the main focus on the 25 acre property with beautifully landscaped gardens and spacious lawns amidst towering eucalyptus trees. This temple is a classically designed Japanese temple painted in rich Tibetan colors. The retreat center is a two story building, with a carpeted meditation hall, ideal for sitting, yoga, meetings and conferences. A screened kitchen, dining pavillion and open lanais overlook orchid, torch ginger and tree fern grottos. Exotic peacocks and peasants strut the grounds freely. Amitabha House adjacent to the temple is an old style plantation house perfect for longer residences,

The main temple hall with hardwood floors is adorned with an excellent selection of Tibetan Buddhist Sacred Art and Asian temple furnishings. The retreat has 4 double occupancy rooms, 3 singles, and bunk bed dormitories. Rooms and hallways are decorated with original works of art by various artists, rooms have Asian Pacific themes, a screened kitchen and dining area has teak furnishings, there are shared 3 1/2 baths. Amitabha House is vintage, with 5 bedrooms, a large living room, kitchen/dining, den, meditation room. The facilities are simple and charming, the environment is peaceful and restful.

Senior monk(s) and students lead Morning and Evening Meditations, Sunday 4 Mandala Tara practice, Saturday Meditation and Philosophy Classes. Occasional weekend and longer retreats with visiitng lamas of all Tibetan Buddhist lineages. Excellent reference library with books on Buddhism, Tibet, and various spiritual traditions. His Holiness the Dalai Lama has stayed and taught here on two occasions. Staying at Wood Valley Temple and Retreat Center is a unique and memorable experience.
