There is nothing quite like being right on the water with a sandy beach enjoying the sunny side of Tomales Bay and spectacular views of Pt. Reyes peninsula.

The beach cottage is about 2 miles north of old downtown Marshall, where Hog Island Oysters (some of the best oysters in the U.S.) and Tony's Seafood (good all around menu) are located, on the East Shore of Tomales Bay looking at Pt. Reyes National Park. It is right on the water and one of the very few homes in the area that is 1) down the hill from highway 1 (more serene and private) and 2) has a nice beach. It is also three miles north of Blue Water Kayaking where you can rent kayaks and get kayak lessons, and the Marshall Store with basic groceries , great clam chowder, and barbequed oysters, is about 15 minutes north of Pt. Reyes Station, and Olema with a number of good restaurants and is 15 minutes south of Dillons Beach where the excellent Dillon Beach Café is located.

The beach cottage is a completely separate house, the next house is about 100 feet away. There is an upstairs bedroom with a nice wood frame queen size bed, a new queen size fold out couch in the living room and a fold out double bed in the sun room.

The upstairs bedroom, sun room, kitchen and living room all have a great views of the bay and Pt. Reyes National seashore. There is a hot tub, new Vermont Castings gas fireplace with brick hearth, CD player, TV with built in VCR that also works with portable DVD players (but no network reception there), full kitchen, barbeque, and two comfy couches, rocker and easy chair. Nice rugs and brand new kitchen tile and maple floors. When it was remodeled it had a passive solar addition and was insulated very well so it stays real cozy.

Great place to watch the abundant bird and wildlife and to watch a sunset over
the water.

Blue Water Kayaks, which is 3 miles south has good instructions for learning kayaking and good kayaks and other equipment for renting. Kayaking on the bay can be wonderful especially in the mornings when it is less likely to be windy., , A block or so south of the beach cottage on Highway 1 is Clark Rd. , Clark Rd. is a small farm road (rarely a car goes by) that goes through the Straus Family Creamery pasture lands all the way to the top of these beautiful hills. From there you can enjoy expansive views of Tomales Bay and Point Reyes Peninsula. By the way, the Straus Family Creamery was the first organic dairy west of the Missippi), , Also about 4 miles South, the Marconi Conference Center (a California Parks Foundation Facility), is a nice place to hike around and take in historical information and beautiful views. Marconi, as you may know, did the first trans-Pacific radio transmissions from this location. ,
