San Francisco: Throbbing and Fun Summer Destination

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

One of the most vibrant cities in America, San Francisco is the financial, cultural, and transportation center of the larger San Francisco Bay Area populated by 7.4 million people. The city is a popular international tourist destination, with an eclectic yet astounding architecture, its rolling hills are the perfect stage for popular landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, the Coit Tower, cable cars and Chinatown. At Rentalo, we pay homage to this multicultural city by offering you planning ideas for your next San Francisco vacation rental.

San Francisco was rated “most-walkable” city based on its culturally rich streetscapes on multicultural neighborhoods crossed by commercial corridors. These neighborhoods feature tons of restaurants, venues and businesses alike. On every street you will find cafes, boutiques, and bars that will make for a glowing nightlife.

If you and your family are more into museums, you can´t miss the Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), which receives more than 600,000 visitors annually and houses many contemporary works of art. You may also want to check out the Palace of the Legion of Honor or the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. And while at the park, visit the California Academy of the Sciences, the local natural history museum which also hosts the Steinhart Aquarium and the Morrison Planetarium. If you have grade school kids, stop by the Exploratorium, an interactive science museum in the Palace of Fine Arts.

The typical tourist experience must include a stroll and lunch on Pier 39 and Fisherman´s Wharf, so you can later enjoy a treat at Ghirardelli Square. Hop on a cable car on Powell Street and roam the city hills on San Francisco´s most recognizable moving landmark. Later visit world-famous Lombard street, the ”crookedest” street, by taking the cable car to Hyde and Lombard. And don´t forget to shop around Chinatown, the biggest Chinese community outside the Asian country.

kids_vacationWhen traveling on family vacations take the appropriate things and props to help you better care for your kids and avoid uncomfortable situations. A first aid kit, with band-aids, mild analgesics, hand gel and sun screen should be always included in your luggage. For those boring moments, distract your kids with crayons, paper, color books and card games. A good idea is to keep a photo of your child in your wallet or purse in case they get lost in a crowded area. Also, take an extra copy of birth certificates and travel arrangements (tickets, reservations, etc). you may also want to include a frisbee for some quick exercise, a lightweight blanket for nap time, snacks and treats, wipes, and plenty of bottled water. And don´t overlook a simple but basic: always go to the bathroom BEFORE you leave; trust us, everyone will feel lighter.
