Our home is a three bedroom, two bath, spacious house, with a sunken living room, a large kitchen and dining room, and a deck that wraps around the house, with entrances into each bedroom. Tile and hardwood floors, with thick rungs in each bedroom give this house a comfortable feeling. A washing machine, dish washer, TV (local stations), and a library of paper backs make you feel at home. It is in the country, far away from tourists, though there aren't many tourists in Hilo, which has a ship come into port every couple of days.

This side of the island is wonderful. Within a half hour of this house, you will be able to: snorkel in the best Tide Pools in Hawaii, visit an active Volcano , see gorgeous waterfalls, travel to South Point where the first Hawaiians landed, sit on the ocean cliffs without another soul around, surf at one of several locations, see a black sand (clothing optional) beach, swim with sea turtles, soak in a natural warm pond, or from our house take an hour hike on a jungle path to a secluded lagoon. And then there is Hilo, a picturesque, old-Hawaii town, with turn of the century buildings and a distinct sense that you've gone back in time.
