...LA CORTE DEL RE 'holiday home' is a small but significant and unique place in the historical center of Arezzo.It is locted in one of the most beautiful squares in the world, PIAZZA GRANDE.

LA CORTE DEL RE is in a building from the early Middle Ages and is composed of six apartments furnished with respect to its antiquity while at the same time providing modern facilities. Many scenes from the movie 'Life is beautiful' by Roberto Benigni were filmed right in the square (Piazza Grande) including the scenes of the bookstore located right next to the principple entrace of LA CORTE DEL RE.

Every first weekend of the month there is the traditional Antique Fair, and in June and september there is the Saracen Joust (Giostra del Saracino) in the Piazza. The Joust is an old Middle Age competition with knights representing the different quarters of the city; riding horses they compete to combat a symbol of an Arabian knight. The competition is framed by a parade of Middle Age costumes, music, flag-wavers, knights and propitiatory celebrations. The city of Arezzo is known as one of the bigger Etruscan and Roman cities.Through the centuries many famous Italians were born in the land of Arezzo: Mecenate, Petrarca, Piero della Francesca, Michelangelo, Masaccio,and Vasari. One can see the history of Arezzo in its three museum: Archeological, Middle Age and Modern Art, Diocese Museum. There are also the ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre, the historical center which is full of Middle Age houses and towers, and the surrounding countryside with strongholds and castles.
