This was the surprise of the whole month we spent in Belize (June 08). We were made to feel at home within the first 5 minutes and the house has all the amenities you could need. The local children are wonderful, loving and friendly and Martin the groundskeeper and his family are simply wonderful. We miss it daily and the memories of becoming a part of Hopkins will last a lifetime. Hopkins is full of adventure but if you are looking to see Belize through Americanized eyes, you will be disappointed...or happy:) It is socially like it used to be in the US about 30 years ago--people are close and friendly, especially if you are. Of course there are some locals who will seek to separate you from your funds and will get you as soon as you slack (keep windows locked at night and this won't happen). don't even leave your wallet in your pants on the beach while you swim...there is no bank in Hopkins. we cannot say enough about our visit and Juanita is a wonderful host who takes great pride in her place. If you are going to Hopkins this is the place to stay, especially the little beachfront cabin.
