On October 15, 2005 my husband and I were in Marysville, Kansas to attend a wedding. We had made motel reservations at your facility in Marysville several weeks earlier. Upon our arrival in Marysville at 10:30 a.m. we proceeded to the Surf Motel to check in. The person at the desk told us we could not check in until 1:00 p.m. after all units had been cleaned. Why in the world do all units need to be cleanred before any of them are occupied?!! I questioned her about this and asked to talk with the manager. At which time I was told the manager would not be in for another hour (almost noon). I asked the clerk what we were supposed to do if the wedding had started at 1:00 p.m.? She did not have an answer for me. We have been in motel/hotel facilities before when our room was not ready when we arrived, but these facilities KNOWING THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE, would tell us our room was not ready at this time, but they would have it cleaned next and to come back in about 30 minutes. AT THIS POINT IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS TO US THAT YOUR FACILITY DOES NOT PLACE MUCH IMPORTANCE ON GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. We feel good customer service is far more important than a lot of amenities!!!! We left the Surf Motel and drove to a competitor. They did not have any non-smoking rooms available or we would have changed motels, but the clerk indicated if they had had a room available we could have checked in at that time which was about 10:40 a.m. We killed time until 11:00 a.m. at which time we went to a restaurant and ate lunch. About 12:00 noon we passed by the Surf Motel on our way to the City Park to kill time until 1:00. At noon there were vehicles (which were not there at 10:30 a.m.) parked in front of units at the Surf Motel. Therefore, it appeared to us that these people had been allowed to check in prior to 1:00 p.m. At this point in time we were beginning to feel we were being discriminated against. We proceeded on to the City Park and killed time until 1:00 p.m., at which time we returned to the motel and checked in. At this point I did not ask to speak to the manager because I was so furious I was afraid I would say something I would regret. We have over 50 family members living in Marysville and Marshall County; therefore, we are in Marysville several times each year to attended various family events. Almost all of these visits result in our staying at a motel. In the future, we will be staying at your competitor. They maybe don't have all the amenities you have, but they have something you don't have--GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE.
